Installing the MPA3052AT as a Primary (Master) drive on any IBM PC or clone.

  1. Unplug your computer's power cord. Physically install your drive by viewing figures 1a through 1c.

Before beginning and if available, it is recommended you wear a grounded wrist strap and use antistatic padding on all surfaces. It is also strongly recommended that you backup the data on any other drives.

CAUTION: Do not use the center holes on the sides of the drive when installing it.
Use screws that are no longer than 3mm (1/8 in.) in length (6-32UNC).   Using
screws longer than 3mm will damage your drive.

  1. Reconnect the power cable to your computer and turn it on.   Follow your system's CMOS/BIOS Setup instructions to enter your computer's Setup program.   (Although each computer is different, these instructions usually appear on your screen during power up.)
  1. If you can access your computer's Setup program go to step 4; if you can't, go to step 5.
  1. Once you have accessed your computer's Setup program, check to see if it has Logical Block Addressing (LBA) as an option. This option is commonly found within one of the available Setup program menu options.     Use your computer's motherboard documentation for assistance in locating this option.
a) If LBA is not an option, go to step 5.
b) If LBA is an option, go to step 6.
  1. Installing and Using Fujitsu's Disk Manager« Software:
a) Insert a bootable floppy diskette (i.e. system/startup disk) in your computer's A:
drive.
b) If you have been able to access your computer's Setup program, exit the program
now without saving changes. If you have not been able to access your Setup program, reboot your computer.
c) Your computer will reboot from the floppy diskette and an A:\> prompt will
appear on your screen.
d) Eject the bootable floppy diskette and insert Fujitsu's Ontrack Disk Manager«
diskette in drive A:.
e) Type dm and press Enter.
f) Follow the onscreen directions for using Disk Manager« to finish installing your

MPA3052AT hard drive. (It is recommended that most users select the Easy Disk Installation option.)

Congratulations on installing your MPA3052AT hard drive. You may now install your operating system software.

  1. Installing Your Hard Drive Using LBA Mode:

    a)   Enable the LBA. If Hard Disk Autodetect is an option in your Setup program, it is recommended you use it           to size your drive. If Autodetect is not an option, set the following disk parameters: 10,172 cylinders, 16            heads, 63 sectors.
    b)   Place a bootable floppy diskette (i.e. system/startup disk) in your computer's A: drive.
    c)   Exit Setup and save the changes.
    d)   Your computer will boot from the floppy diskette and an A:\> prompt will appear on your screen. Type           fdisk and press Enter.
    e)   Select 'Create DOS Partition or Logical DOS Drive'.
    f)   Next, select 'Create Primary DOS Partition'.   When prompted, specify the percentage of drive space that            you want. DOS has a size limitation of 2GB per partition.
    g)   If you wish to utilize the remaining capacity of your drive (3GB above the 2GB DOS limitation) you will            need to create a second partition.
    h)   Select the fdisk option to 'Create DOS Partition or Logical DOS Drive' then select
        'Create Extended DOS Partition'.
    i)   After the partitions have been created, the logical DOS drive letter C: will be assigned to the primary             partition, and another letter will be assigned to the extended partition.
    j)   Upon exiting the fdisk program, your computer will reboot.
    k)   At the A:\> prompt, type format c:/s and press Enter. This will format your drive with the system boot files           so you may boot from it.   (NOTE:   The formatting process will take several minutes to finish, depending on            the size of your drive and your computer.
    l)   To format any secondary partitions, type format driveletter: at the A:\> prompt and press Enter (where           driveletter is the logical DOS drive letter assigned to the extended partition).
    m) Eject the floppy diskette from your A: drive and reboot your computer.

Congratulations on installing your MPA3052AT hard drive. You may now install your operating system software.
